Dawn of War: Soulstorm
This was my very first industry gig, and while I wouldn’t include my work here in any real demo in the future, I wouldn’t be where I am without the experience this project gave me, and the opportunity that Iron Lore Entertainment gave me by taking a chance. They hired me, a scared little kid who had big dreams and a decent education, but absolutely zero experience. I was thrust into the deep end of sound design and project management.
SoulStorm had about 4,000 original sound effects, 17,000 lines of dialogue, and shipped in four languages. Needless to say, I not only had to be extremely creative in my designs, but I also had to learn new software packages that I hadn’t even heard of, all the while staying insanely organized.
Nine months from my hire date, we shipped…and then Iron Lore shut down. Luckily, when a studio shuts down, you end up having contacts all across the country. I owe a big ‘thank you’ to the folks who worked there – this was my first step into game development, and a giant leap into what has become a wonderful career.
